What are vibrating feeders used for?
A vibrating feeder meters bulk material from a hopper toward a crusher or another process stage. A grizzly configuration can remove some undersize before primary crushing when the material and layout suit the application.
How it works
Controlled vibration moves material along a trough. Feed rate depends on the material, bed depth, hopper interface and drive arrangement. Hopper flow behavior can constrain the feeder even when its nominal trough capacity appears adequate.
When to consider it
Use a vibrating-feeder enquiry when a downstream machine needs a steadier feed from a bulk hopper. Describe whether the duty is simple conveying, coarse scalping or controlled feeding into a crusher.
Application limits to check
Wet cohesive ore may bridge in the hopper or blind grizzly openings. A feeder cannot correct a poorly designed hopper outlet by itself; very heavy impact or difficult material may require another feeder type.
Selection data for a useful quotation
These are enquiry inputs, not specifications of a single model. Include measured values, units and the expected operating range; flag anything still to be tested.
| Input | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Bulk material | Density, lump size, moisture, clay and flow behavior |
| Feed duty | Normal and peak tonnes per hour and required control range |
| Hopper interface | Outlet dimensions, material head and loading method |
| Scalping | Grizzly gap and destination of bypassed fines |
| Mechanical layout | Trough length, drop height and isolation supports |
| Control and service | Drive control, interlocks, liners and inspection access |
Compare the complete duty
Compare vibrating and apron feeders by impact duty, material flow and control requirements. A grizzly feeder also performs a scalping function; a plain pan feeder does not automatically provide that separation.
Before accepting a supplier proposal
- Review hopper outlet geometry and the load transferred to the feeder.
- Confirm liner replacement access, spring or isolation details and drive guarding.
- Check start-stop interlocks with the crusher and the treatment of blocked flow.
Buyer questions about vibrating feeders
Can the feeder remove fines?
A grizzly section can bypass material smaller than its openings. Separation depends on material condition, bed depth and opening design.
Why is the hopper part of feeder selection?
The hopper determines the flow pattern and the load on the feeder. Poor discharge can create starvation or surges regardless of the feeder rating.
Can speed control alone fix uneven feed?
It may help within the designed operating range. Bridging, segregation and unsuitable hopper geometry require separate review.
