AT A GLANCE

What are mining belt conveyors used for?

A mining belt conveyor continuously transports bulk solids between defined points. A project selection includes the route, material characteristics, transfer points, drive and protection systems as well as the belt itself.

How it works

A driven belt carries material over idlers or another support arrangement. Belt width, speed, loading profile and inclination influence capacity. Start-up, stopping, tension and transfer behavior are engineering duties beyond steady-state tonnage.

When to consider it

Consider belt conveying for repeated bulk movement between crushers, screens, stockpiles or process areas. Provide the route profile, material data and every loading and discharge point before comparing configurations.

Application limits to check

Conventional belts have inclination and loading constraints. Sticky material, large lumps, abrasive fines and long routes require additional design attention. Personnel protection and local conveyor requirements need project review.

Selection data for a useful quotation

These are enquiry inputs, not specifications of a single model. Include measured values, units and the expected operating range; flag anything still to be tested.

Mining belt conveyors: information to include in your RFQ
InputWhat to provide
MaterialBulk density, lump size, abrasion, moisture and temperature
DutyNormal and peak tonnes per hour and loading pattern
RouteLength, lifts, gradients, curves and transfer elevations
Belt and structureWidth, carcass, cover, idlers and support scope
DriveStarting method, tensioning, braking and power supply
ProtectionPull cords, belt tracking, guards, dust and fire requirements

Compare the complete duty

Compare a fixed conveyor with truck haulage using route stability, production, energy, maintenance and flexibility. Steep-angle or special belt arrangements are distinct design choices and should not be assumed from a standard conveyor quotation.

Before accepting a supplier proposal

  • Review the route profile, drive calculations and start-stop cases.
  • Confirm transfer-chute design, cleaning, guarding and emergency stops.
  • List belt joints, installation labor, spares and commissioning responsibilities.

Buyer questions about mining belt conveyors

Can belt width alone determine capacity?

No. Speed, loading area, material density, inclination and feed control all contribute.

Can a standard conveyor climb any slope?

No. Material behavior and belt design constrain inclination. Ask for a route-specific design and any special handling arrangement.

Are transfer chutes part of the conveyor?

They may be excluded unless stated. Identify every interface, dust enclosure and wear-liner responsibility in the supply scope.
