What are centrifugal concentrators used for?
A centrifugal concentrator applies an enhanced gravitational field to separate suitable high-density particles. It is commonly evaluated for gravity-recoverable gold and other tested gravity duties.
How it works
A rotating bowl increases the acceleration acting on particles. Depending on the design, fluidization water and retention zones help collect dense particles while lighter material passes through. Batch and continuous discharge arrangements have different circuit implications.
When to consider it
Consider a centrifugal concentrator where testing identifies liberated, gravity-recoverable material. State the feed location in the circuit and how the resulting concentrate will be secured, sampled and further processed.
Application limits to check
It does not liberate gold locked inside another mineral or recover every form of gold. Clay, size distribution, fluidization water and the selected operating cycle can affect performance.
Selection data for a useful quotation
These are enquiry inputs, not specifications of a single model. Include measured values, units and the expected operating range; flag anything still to be tested.
| Input | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Test evidence | Gravity-recoverable fraction and mineral liberation |
| Feed | Solids rate, full size distribution and slurry density |
| Circuit location | Mill discharge, cyclone stream or another defined point |
| Water supply | Fluidization flow, pressure, cleanliness and recycle |
| Operating arrangement | Batch cycle or continuous duty and concentrate handling |
| Support | Wear surfaces, controls, guarding and service access |
Compare the complete duty
Compare centrifugal concentration with tables and jigs on the tested feed-size range and recovery objective. A centrifugal rougher may still need a separate concentrate-cleaning stage; compare the whole gravity circuit.
Before accepting a supplier proposal
- Review representative gravity tests and size-by-size recovery.
- Confirm water filtration, operating controls and concentrate-discharge security.
- Document sampling, mass balance and the scope of downstream cleaning.
Buyer questions about centrifugal concentrators
Will it recover gold inside sulfides?
Only particles whose behavior allows gravity recovery can be separated. Gold locked in sulfides may need another liberation or processing route.
Is fluidization water always needed?
Many bowl designs use it, but requirements are model-specific. Confirm flow, pressure and cleanliness for the proposed machine.
Does a high recovery percentage transfer between sites?
No. Feed mineralogy, particle size, circuit position and operating conditions must match the test basis.
